Anders Byriel has been CEO of Kvadrat A/S since 1998.
Kvadrat was established in Denmark in 1968 and is the leading European supplier of contemporary high quality modern textiles and textile related products, like our acoustic panels Soft Cells, for both architects to specify in public spaces and for the private consumer for the home throughout the world.
Kvadrat fabrics have been used in some of the world’s most intriguing architectural developments such as the Gherkin, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles; Reichstag, Berlin; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Copenhagen Opera House, Denmark, Yves St. Laurent, Paris and the new Opera House in Oslo.
Kvadrat is involved in 3.000 building projects per year around the world. Kvadrat is also servicing more or less all major furniture manufacturing brands with upholstery textiles. New non-core clients are Jil Sander and BMW.
During Anders Byriel’s leadership Kvadrat have grown from Euro 19 mill. to Euro 96 mill. in revenue. The company has gone from 2 to 24 incorporated companies and is now among the two strongest companies in the world in its industry.
Kvadrat won the Wallpaper 2009 and 2010 Design Awards (Best Use of Textiles).
From 1992 to 1998 Anders Byriel had various positions in Kvadrat, being Head of Global Sales before becoming CEO. Prior to joining Kvadrat Anders Byriel was a consultant and litigant with the attorney company Thomsen, Barkholt and Vestergaard in Aarhus while earning his Masters Degree of Law from Aarhus University in 1992 (A+ for his final paper on IP protection of design work / products).
In 1996 Anders Byriel earned an Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) from CBS, Copenhagen Business School.
While working for Kvadrat Anders Byriel has served as chairman
of the Danish Design Council 2007 – 2012 and has also been chairman of various innovative companies, such as Red Associates 2005 – 2010 (the European Ideo) and Kontrapunkt A/S 2003 – 2006 (Scandinavia’s biggest CI-company).
Anders Byriel serves as vice chairman of RETHINK 2017 Aarhus European Capital of Culture. He is also a member of the board of JP/Politikens Hus and a member of the board of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture, Design and Conservation – School of Architecture.
Kvadrat was finalist 2011 for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in mid-Denmark and won the prestigious award in 2012.
Anders Byriel has been doing keynote speak at Global Design Forum 2012, St. Martin’s College of Art and Design, London; SEE Project Final Conference 2011, Brussels; Deutscher Marken- und Designkongress 2010, Wiesbaden; Konstfack Forum on Creativity 2008, Stockholm and MoMA, Modern Danish Design Revisited 2006 and Chair at the international YPO Branding and Design Conference in Milan 2005.
Anders lives in Ebeltoft near Aarhus with his wife Anette Graabæk and their 3 daughters, Sara, Sofie and Nora.
